About the Mission
Returned the first color images from the Venusian surface. Survived 127 minutes, a record for Venus landers. Showed flat basalt rocks under an orange sky. The pressure is equivalent to being 900 meters underwater. Soviet engineers achieved something remarkable with 1970s technology.
