About the Mission
Ed White performed the first American spacewalk on June 3, 1965. He was so reluctant to return that Jim McDivitt had to order him back in. Said it was the saddest moment of his life. White later died in the Apollo 1 fire in 1967. The EVA lasted 23 minutes.
