About the Mission
The second of the NASA Great Observatories. Detected thousands of gamma ray bursts from every direction in the sky. One instrument recorded a burst nearly every day of its 9 year life. After gyroscope failures it was deliberately deorbited over the Pacific. Its catalog set the stage for solving the burst mystery.
