About the Mission

The second crewed Moon landing, in November 1969. Pete Conrad and Alan Bean landed within walking distance of Surveyor 3, proving precision landings were possible. The rocket was struck by lightning twice during launch but quick thinking saved the mission. Conrad, a shorter man, joked about his height in his first words from the surface. The crew brought back parts of Surveyor 3 for study.
