About the Mission
Carried Yang Liwei, the first Chinese astronaut, on October 15, 2003. Made China the third country to launch its own crewed spacecraft. The flight lasted 21 hours and 14 orbits. Yang became a national hero overnight. Shenzhou resembles Soyuz in layout but is larger and built fresh.
